  Triple Bonus:

Triple Bonus is a type of video poker. It is very similar to another game known as Super Triple Bonus, but should not be confused with it. Triple Bonus has fewer bonus features, but compensates for this with more generous payouts for lower-ranking hands.

Rules

In practically every aspect, Triple Bonus is identical to Jacks or Better, the grandfather of virtually the entire video poker genre. Thus, it is a Draw Poker game in which you need a pair of Jacks in your final hand in order to get the lowest possible payout (even money). Here is how it works. First, you place your bet. Second, the program sends five virtual cards your way. These form your initial hand. If you are lucky enough, you find that your initial hand already yields a great payout, in which case you accept it as it is and receive your money. Much of the time, however, you will see enough room for improvement, combined with good odds of getting one or more cards that will bump your hand up to a higher payment level. In that case, you can discard “bad” cards and get dealt others from the deck in order to put together a “new” five-card hand. The skill dimension comes in deciding whether to discard cards, and if so, which ones. Also, please note that the option of discarding your entire initial hand is also available, but do not expect to be using it often.

In essence, Triple Bonus has only one bonus feature. Basically, if you get all four Aces in one hand, you get a large payout that is second only to the Royal Flush in magnitude. This amount is three times what that hand would normally earn you in a Jacks or Better game, hence the name Triple Bonus.

Triple Bonus

It is an unfortunate reality of the video poker world that many games with multiple bonus features balance them out by eliminating or reducing the payouts for hands on the lower end of the ranking scheme. Triple Bonus, while only having a few bonus features, at least refrains from taking the pickaxe to the lower payouts.

Types of Bets

In addition to a rather familiar set of playing rules, this game also possesses a rather run-of-the-mill betting structure. It is no different from that used in most other video poker games. You can bet up to five coins per hand. You are usually encouraged to bet more in order to have a chance at the biggest payout. Of course, a key question would involve the actual monetary value you assign to your coins, which has a huge impact on how much money you ultimately spend in one sitting.

Strategies

Since you can still get decent payouts for hands that are not that high up on the ranking scheme, it makes sense to play conservatively. In other words, if you already have a decent hand, do not break up the critical cards in order to pursue a much higher-ranking hand. You are more likely to just end up with nothing at all. Take the smaller payment, be happy, and move on to the next hand.

Many video poker sites also advise players to keep wagering the maximum bet of five coins, in order to open up their chances for larger payouts. This is indeed true. However, players on a tight budget may feel like such advice is not meant for them. Actually, they can always try dividing up their money for each bet into five coins of small denominations.

Experience

It is true that Triple Bonus is rather unadorned in terms of bonus hands, special payouts, etc. People who enjoy a lot of special features and bonuses should try to look elsewhere. However, Triple Bonus still retains decent payouts for hands on the lower end of the rankings, which makes the game a good fit for conservative poker fans. Furthermore, the very lack of special features means that it is very much like Jacks or Better, and therefore that conventional Jacks or Better tactics can be used here to good effect. You can easily find articles detailing these tactics online, so you will not be lost in a strategic terra incognita that sometimes happens when players experiment with a complex new variation on video poker for which strategies have not yet been developed.

Triple Bonus Video Poker

Besides this, we can further elaborate on the Triple Bonus experience by discussing it as a member of a class of games. In other words, Triple Bonus is a video poker game, so what does that mean?

Well, it means that your sole interaction will be with either a poker machine or a computer. For some players, this can turn the game into a very dull or even lonely experience. They will miss the bluffing, drama, and simple bonding offered by live games. On the other hand, there will also be players who will find this state of affairs a relief. If there are no other players involved, you do not have to worry about hiding your poker tells. On the less psychological side of things, being the only player also means that you do not have to take other people’s cards, decisions, and playing styles into account. You can just focus on the cards that you yourself have. There are fewer factors clamoring for your attention. Simplicity and straightforwardness are actually quite special in the world of poker, and even in today’s cultural climate in general, so these qualities can actually be a game’s strengths, not its weaknesses.

Deciding on whether or not to play Triple Bonus actually depends on whether or not you like Jacks or Better, since the two games are almost exactly identical. Triple Bonus does not get major points for originality, but then again, if it must be a copycat game, at least it is based on an excellent model. Fans of straightforward Draw Poker are likely to take to Triple Bonus, especially if they are not in the mood to experiment with their strategies.
