Detroit Lions Season Wins Total: Could Be A Good Year To Bet The Over

Fans will find out who the Detroit Lions will face each week of the regular season when the schedule gets released Thursday, but we already know who the Lions will play. Armed with that knowledge, we don’t have to wait until Thursday to put money down on Detroit’s regular season win total at Michigan sportsbooks.

Like always, they will see their division foes (Packers, Bears, and Vikings) twice apiece. They will also face the NFC East, taking on the Eagles and Commanders at home while going on the road to face the Giants and Cowboys. Seattle, Buffalo, Miami, and Jacksonville will travel to Detroit. The Lions will go on the road to face the Panthers, Patriots, and Jets.

Detroit Lions Season Wins Total

Expectations are not high for the Lions in 2024, but they will need to win a few more games for bettors who take the over, which is 6 or 6.5 at most sportsbooks.

Sportsbook Odds
DraftKings Over 6.5 (+105)
Under 6.5 (-125)
FanDuel Over 6.5 (+100)
Under 6.5 (-120)
Caesars Over 6 (-110)
Under 6 (-110)
BetRivers Over 6.5 (-110)
Under 6.5 (-110)

Detroit went 3-13-1 last season but could have covered this year’s win total if a few plays had gone the other way. Six of their losses were by eight or fewer points. That includes four that were by fewer than three points. The Lions also had a tie against the Steelers in Week 10.

Had a few plays/calls gone their way, the Lions could have been 10-7 last season.

Bettors who are not quite ready to back Detroit will want to take the under at BetRivers Michigan, 6.5 games at -110.

Lions 2024 Schedule Analysis

The team did make strides last season under coach Dan Campbell. With the talent added in the draft, there is a chance this year they can get a few plays to go their way in one-score games and steal a few wins. So, which games could come down to one score?

Probably not either Packers games or the ones against the Bills and Cowboys. They were 0-2 against the Bears last season, but until QB Justin Fields makes strides, those are winnable games. Against Minnesota, they were 1-1 last season. However, both games were decided by two points.

Barring massive improvements by QBs Daniel Jones and Zack Wilson, both New York games are winnable. The Lions have a shot against the Panthers with Sam Darnold at quarterback, but they’ll have a better one if the oft-injured RB Christian McCaffrey is out.

Philadelphia, Washington, Miami, and New England will likely be favored against the Lions. Those teams should win as long as their quarterbacks improve and do not struggle when they face Detroit, but if their QBs have an off day, the Lions could record an upset win or two.

Betting Recommendation

It is hard to argue against taking the under when you consider the team’s recent history. The Lions won three games last season and lost 13. They were not much better in 2020, winning five games, and they won three in 2019. The last time the Lions had a winning record was 2017 when they finished with a 9-7 record.

But the team did show a lot of promise last season and was competitive in quite a few games. If the team can continue to improve under Campbell and his staff, there is a very good chance a few of those close losses will turn into wins in 2024.

Our Pick: Over 6 at -110 (Caesars)
