DraftKings to Open Sports Betting Lounge at Michigan’s Somerset Collection

DraftKings and Live! Hospitality & Entertainment announced plans to open a sports betting lounge at Somerset Collection in Troy in the fall of 2024.

The 10,400 square foot lounge will provide an expansive viewing area for sporting events, with food and alcoholic beverages available. Visitors will be able to watch multiple events on a 32-foot LED media wall, and the area will have wi-fi access to enable customers to access DraftKings Sportsbook Michigan to place wagers.

The venue will be the first of what is being called “Sports & Social DraftKings,” a food and beverage lounge focused on sports betting and sports entertainment.

Somerset Collection is a luxury shopping mall located in Troy, about 18 miles from Detroit. It features 180 specialty stores and is one of the most popular shopping destinations in Metro Detroit and southeastern Michigan. It has 1.45 million square feet of retail, dining, and entertainment space.

“Dining, Sports, and Entertainment Destination”

Sr. Director of Retail Sportsbooks at DraftKings Michael Kibort called the venue “a premier dining, sports and entertainment destination for fans to enjoy.”

“We are thrilled to debut the first-ever Sports & Social DraftKings and offer customers in Michigan our innovative mobile sportsbook app with an exciting in-person experience,” Kibort said in a statement.

In addition to catering to small groups and individuals, the lounge will be available to large groups that wish to have watch parties or fantasy draft nights in the facility.

While Michigan has retail sportsbooks located in casinos throughout the state on tribal lands, and in a handful of Detroit casinos, Sports & Social DraftKings will be the first Michigan “entertainment lounge” designed to cater to sports bettors.

Since Michigan launched legal sports betting in January 2021, the state has reported more than $6.8 billion in total sports betting handle, which has generated nearly $25 million in tax revenue for the state and City of Detroit.

“We are honored that Sports & Social DraftKings has chosen to establish its first U.S. location at Somerset Collection,” said Nate Forbes, who is the Managing Partner of The Forbes Company, which owns and operates Somerset Collection. “Our guests travel from across Michigan, the Midwest, and Canada to experience many brands that are exclusive to Somerset Collection, and we are thrilled that this venue will give them another reason to make this region a destination.”

According to DraftKings, the lounge in Troy will be followed by other Sports & Social DraftKings locations in other states that have legalized sports betting.

Live! Hospitality & Entertainment has designed multi-purpose entertainment venues in several cities, such as Live! at the Battery in Atlanta, The Live! Hotel at Live! Casino Maryland, and others.
