FireKeepers And Scientific Games Launch Popular Casino Games & Sports Betting Platform in Michigan

The wait is over: gamblers and sports bettors in Michigan can now play popular games and bet on a leading sports betting platform, thanks to a deal announced today.

FireKeepers Casino Hotel and Scientific Games, who makes some of the most played online casino games in the industry, have entered into an agreement to provide digital sports betting content in Michigan.

The content will be available immediately to FireKeepers players in Michigan on their digital gaming apps and online casino and sportsbook. The content is being fed through Scientific Games’ OpenGaming™ and OpenSports™ products, which have proved successful and attractive to players across the United States.

The new online casino titles include 88 Fortunes® and Let It Ride®, and many more from Scientific Games, which is based in Las Vegas. Scientific Games owns Bally Technologies and WMS Industries, and also operates UK sports-betting platform OpenBet.

The announcement comes on the heels of Firekeepers launching their sportsbook and online casino earlier this month, on July 12. Their initial launch featured a smaller roster of casino games from NYX Digital (which is owned by Scientific Games).

The Nottawaseppi Huron Band of the Potawatomi, which owns and operates the Firekeepers Casino Hotel in Battle Creek, chose to brand their online gaming as FireKeepers and partner with established digital gaming content companies like Scientific Games. That strategy allows the NHBP to grow their brand in the state of Michigan, which is seeing strong revenue and popularity for online gaming and sports betting since it went live earlier in 2021.

The NHBP is based at the Pine Creek Indian Reservation near Athens, Michigan, and is a federally recognized Tribal government with more than 1,500 members. A percentage of online gaming revenue from their efforts is used to  fund projects and initiatives in their tribe as well as the surrounding communities.

FireKeepers Casino Hotel

The NHBP owns and operates the Firekeepers Casino Hotel in Battle Creek, Michigan. It has an eight-story, 243-room, diamond-rated hotel, and a 107,000-square-foot casino with more than 2,900 slots, 70 table games and a 26-table poker room.

According to the NHBP, the name FireKeepers has a long history:

The Potawatomi name is a derivation of Bodéwadmi. Bodwé means to put something into a fire. Wadmi refers to the people. Bodéwadmi means “The people who maintain a fire,” also known as FireKeepers. This refers to the role the Potawatomi people have as the Keepers of the Council Fire, which was an earlier alliance with other Tribes in the area.
