Michigan’s Online Gambling Brands Finding Success In Other US Markets

The top legal online gambling brands on their way to the Michigan market bring a track record of success to the Wolverine State. The biggest names in the real-money iGaming industry will compete for a share of the Michigan market.

Platforms like Golden Nugget Online Casino come to the state on a surge of record-setting revenue numbers throughout 2020. Sports betting giants like FanDuel and DraftKings bring the top-earning mobile wagering brands in the US to the Michigan market.

Five of the biggest iGaming brands set to launch in Michigan include Golden Nugget, DraftKings, FanDuel, BetRivers, and BetMGM. Each of these companies is slated to launch both online sports betting and casino platforms in Michigan.

Michigan lawmakers hope for an early-2021 launch of online gaming products. Many of these brands are already offering pre-launch registration bonuses.

Golden Nugget

Golden Nugget offers an integrated online casino and sportsbook platform in New Jersey. Golden Nugget Casino stands as one of the highest-rated online casinos in the state among New Jersey players.

The New Jersey Divison of Gaming Enforcement doesn’t release revenue figure breakdowns for individual mobile casino brands. Golden Nugget Online Casino operates as one of four mobile casino apps under the Golden Nugget Atlantic City license.

Golden Nugget Atlantic City sits atop the list of top-earning operators in New Jersey. The four skins under the license (Golden Nugget NJ, Betfair, SugarHouse, and BetAmerica) project to bring in more than $300 million in revenue for 2020.

Michigan players can expect a world-class product from Golden Nugget Online Gaming. In addition to Michigan, Golden Nugget plans to expand into Pennsylvania, Illinois, and West Virginia in the coming months.

DraftKings

DraftKings’ footprint in the legal gambling sphere goes well past the brand’s origins in daily fantasy sports. DraftKings Sportsbook could operate in a dozen states or more by the end of 2021.

Looking at the top six US states for overall sports betting handle, DraftKings Sportbook ranks as one of the top two online sportsbooks in each for revenue earned.

Like those other markets, DraftKings Sportsbook projects to emerge as one of Michigan’s most popular online sportsbooks. Michigan joins New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia as states that enjoy access to both online sports betting and casino gaming offered by DraftKings.

DraftKings Casino debuted in Pennsylvania in July 2020 and already rose to the No. 2 spot in revenue earned among Pennsylvania’s mobile casinos in October.

DraftKings’ online casino and sportsbook products stand to garner similar success in the Michigan market.

FanDuel

FanDuel takes the top spot as the highest-earning online sportsbook brand in the US. FanDuel’s Q3 2020 Trading Update announced that FanDuel Sportsbook accounts for 46% of mobile sports betting market share in the domestic market.

That 46% share strikes an astounding figure in a US market with more than 15 multi-state online sports betting brands. FanDuel Sportsbook operates as the top-earning mobile sportsbook in New Jersey and Pennsylvania, two of the three biggest sports betting markets in the US.

Like its closest competitor, DraftKings, FanDuel expanded into online casino gaming with a Pennsylvania launch. FanDuel Casino debuted in the Keystone State at the beginning of 2020 and will finish up 2020 as the second-highest earning mobile casino in the state.

FanDuel’s online sports betting and casino products will launch in partnership with MotorCity Casino Hotel. Michigan players can expect FanDuel’s iGaming products to compete as some of the most popular options in the state.

BetRivers

Rush Street Interactive reigns as the top online casino operator in the Pennsylvania market. The pair of Rush Street Interactive mobile casino skins, BetRivers and SugarHouse Casino, earned more than $143 million in 2020 revenue through November.

The BetRivers name derives from the pair of Rivers Casino land-based properties in Pennsylvania. The BetRivers iGaming brand expands well beyond Pennsylvania, however.

Players in Pennsylvania and New Jersey enjoy access to the BetRivers and SugarHouse online casino platforms. BetRivers also offers mobile sports betting in both of those states, as well as Illinois, Colorado, Indiana, and Iowa.

BetRivers Sportsbook emerged as the top mobile sportsbook in Illinois in October. According to reports from the Illinois Gaming Board, the BetRivers online sportsbook took in just under $11.5 million in monthly revenue.

Michigan players can look forward to a hybrid sports betting/casino platform launched by BetRivers.

BetMGM

BetMGM emerged as one of the fastest-growing iGaming brands in the US in 2020. A dual venture between MGM Resorts and GVC Holdings, BetMGM will launch online sports betting and casino gaming under the license of MGM Grand Detroit.

BetMGM’s online casino operations include New Jersey and West Virginia. Pennsylvania and Michigan will both join that list sometime in 2021.

The BetMGM sports betting platform operates alongside the online casino in both New Jersey and West Virginia. Bettors in Indiana and Colorado also enjoy access to BetMGM Sportsbook.

In all states in which it operates, BetMGM competes for a solid share of the overall market. BetMGM Sportsbook came in as the third-highest earning mobile sportsbook in Indiana in November, with more than $2.2 million in revenue according to the Indiana Gaming Commission.

Midwest Mobile Sports Betting Boom

The trio of legal sports betting states in close proximity to Michigan all continue to break monthly records in betting handle and revenue through the second half of 2020.

Indiana hit an all-time high in monthly revenue in October, with online sportsbooks earning $19.38 million. The Hoosier State’s mobile sports betting platform followed up with $19.23 million in November revenue.

Iowa’s mobile sports betting apps surged with the arrival of the fall sports season. Iowa online sportsbooks posted a state-record $6.37 million in October, followed by just under $5.3 million in November earnings.

Illinois jumped into the top five US states in overall sports betting handle in September, with state sportsbooks taking $305 million in bets. October saw that figure rise dramatically, as Illinois sportsbooks produced just under $435 million in overall betting handle.
