Sports Betting And Online Betting

The Michigan government legalized sports betting, online sports betting, daily fantasy games, and online gambling in late 2019. These changes paved the way for casinos to expand their services for players, especially for those who couldn’t make it into the casino to play.

Retail sports betting was made available to the public at most Michigan casinos in March 2020. After a year of working out the specific regulations for online gambling, the Michigan Gaming Control Board oversaw the launch of online sportsbook and casino apps in late January 2021.

The Sault Tribe of Chippewa Indians has officially launched sports betting at all five Kewadin Casino properties, as well as online gaming platforms. Those products will come through WynnBET Sportsbook & Casino.

New players at the WynnBET sports betting app are eligible for a risk-free bet up to $1000 as a welcome bonus. New users can also claim the casino app bonus, which matches 100% up to $1000 with the promo code SHARP.

Kewadin St. Ignace Casino History

The original Kewadin St. Ignace Casino first opened in 1987 on the Northern Shores of Lake Huron. This casino slowly expanded over the following 20 years until the facilities were too old and maze-like for comfortable use. The Sault Tribe opted to build a new casino next to the first Kewadin Casino starting around 2003.

The new casino was completed in 2006, but couldn’t start operating right away due to legal complications. Basically, part of the casino was built on lands where gaming might not be allowed. In 2007, the Sault Tribe received an injunction that permitted them to operate fully while a lawsuit wound its way through the courts. By 2009, the US Federal Courts ruled in favor of the Sault Tribe and they were free to operate their casino without fear of further legal challenges.
